Creating a speculative set of large-scale poster advertisements for The Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum.
Titled “Visual Music,” the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum's (speculative) new exhibition collects an archive of experimental music manuscripts created by avant-garde artists from the mid-1900s to today.
I designed a series of ten posters in multiple sizes and formats to help advertise the exhibition.
Knowing that the visual design of the manuscripts was the main appeal of the exhibition, I traced the designs in Illustrator in order to use them as scalable graphics. I also created a typemark and tagline to tie the system together.
Rather than using a fixed set of colors, I decided to make the color system dynamic by choosing gradients inspired by the content of each individual manuscript.
